FWC Ride to Freedom

In June 2023, FWC will take a team of 8 ladies to France to tackle the challenging terrain surrounding the ‘WWII Freedom Trail’ across the Pyrenees Mountains on horseback. This act of remembrance touches the hearts of the FWC community, and this 'Ride to Freedom' will be particularly significant for FWC member Steph who became disabled 3 years ago and is now permanently dependant on a wheelchair.

Steph joined FWC determined not to let her disability prevent her from adventuring and inspiring others to never give up hope. The team will spend 5 days on horseback and support Steph to achieve what she believed to be impossible - freedom from her wheelchair, and ultimately, freedom from disability.

This ‘Ride to Freedom’ will showcase the incredible power adventure can have on those living with physical disability, mental health conditions and chronic illness.

For now here are some useful FAQ’s

DO I NEED TO BE ABLE TO RIDE A HORSE?

Yes, due to the challenging terrain we will be riding over, you will need to be a competent horse rider. We will be riding for 5-7 hours each day over 5 days, so riders need to be confident they have the skills and experience to manage this. There is maximum rider weight limit of 90kg.

DO I HAVE TO BE a FWC member to apply?

DO I HAVE TO ATTEND BOTH THE TEAM BUILDING WEEKENDS PRIOR TO THE RIDE?

Can I apply for more than one overseas challenge?

How much is the personal contribution I will be required to pay if I am selected for the team?

There will be a cost of £650 required from each team member and a maximum contribution of £50 each per team building day. Flights and personal insurance will be on top of this sum. A deposit of £300 per participant selected for the team, will be due by the 3rd December 2022.

IS THIS AN OFFICERS’ WIVES THING?
